Backstory
Squall Leonhart, the protagonist of Final Fantasy VIII, was a young man with a gloomy past, but in the Kingdom Hearts series, he takes refuge in Traverse Town as 'Leon' and acts as a guardian for Sora and his friends. He is a resident of Radiant Garden, who fled his hometown during a Heartless attack and ended up in Traverse Town with his comrades. Having changed his name from 'Squall' to 'Leon' to sever ties with his heart's weakness stemming from his painful past.
