Despite admonishments from his younger brother for defying doctrine, he pursued independent alchemy research. Due to his proximity to the eastern border, he incorporated Xingese alkahestry research, fusing it to create a special transmutation circle. He passed the research book to his brother, and ultimately shielded him from Kimblee's attack, sustaining a fatal wound and dying.
