- Hails from the most dangerous district "Zaraki" in Rukongai. Eleventh to claim the name Kenpachi, given generation after generation to the strongest Shinigami. He bypassed the entrance exam, defeated the previous Squad 11 captain in a duel, and seized the captain position. Loves battle above all else, places little weight on duties, but shows care for his subordinates. The eyepatch and bells in his hair are self-imposed handicaps, tools to enjoy battles befitting a battle maniac. His Zanpakutō's name is "Nozarashi". At the time of becoming captain, he had mastered neither Shikai nor Bankai, but awakened its power in the Thousand-Year Blood War arc.
