History
- Backstory
- Born in 1875 into a wealthy evangelical family in England, rebelled against strict religious education from boyhood and developed interests in occultism, poetry, and mountaineering. Joined the magical order "Golden Dawn" in the early 20th century, later founded his own magical orders A∴A∴ and O.T.O., engaging in esoteric practices using sex magic and drugs. Authored "The Book of the Law" based on a revelation obtained during his honeymoon, proclaimed himself a prophet, and established Thelemic doctrine. In the 1920s, established the Thelema Abbey in Cefalù, Italy, but was viewed as a heretic and fell from power. In his later years, wandered Europe and America, leaving many disciples and artworks amid impoverished circumstances. Died in 1947.
