- Born in 1860 in Suwa, Nagano Prefecture, he was active as the Akabōtai first platoon deputy squad leader before and after the Restoration. He deeply respects his master Sōzō Aihara, and after the Restoration, he was furious at the government for treating the Akabōtai as impostors, opposing the Meiji government. After fighting and losing to Kenshin, he is won over by his character and becomes a comrade. He lives a rough life in Tokyo as a brawler while valuing friendship and loyalty. He eventually masters Double Impact and fights many enemies alongside Kenshin. Later, to help his hometown family, he becomes a horse thief, traveling through America and Europe toward Mongolia. He grows alongside his Zanbatō, depicted as a warrior who upholds his beliefs.
