Backstory
Jonathan Crane suffered abuse from his father during childhood, developing an obsession with fear. From his bullying experiences, he became a psychiatrist and pursued phobia research, but was fired after accidentally injuring a student and turned to crime for revenge. He developed fear-manipulating hallucinogenic gas and commits crimes with it. His greatest weapon against Batman, whom he confronts repeatedly, is fear akin to psychological torture.
